Ring Video Doorbell

ringvideodoorbellIf you read my blogs or know me then you know I am legally blind and I look for things to help me around the house.  When I saw this Ring Video Doorbell, I was like this would help be able to see who is at the door AND be able to talk to them so I know what they want before I get to the door.  I looked at reviews and watched videos, as I always do when making an expensive purchase.  I saw that it was easy to install and I am pretty handy and could figure this out.  I bought it from Amazon, like I do most of my purchases, and when it got here, I opened and read everything to make sure I had everything to install.  I did because they send everything you need in the packaging, although they did when I bought it, not sure if they do now.  I had a little trouble installing but it installed and I got it up and running.

I did like that I could see the people that came up and I had the motion up so high that every passing car turned it on and with reading that they say you will have to charge battery more, and since my house didn’t have a doorbell to wire it into, I have to rely on the battery.  I was taking the ring off and bringing it inside and charging so much I brought it to recommendations and I am STILL charging it at least once every 2 months, so the year or more battery that they say it has, I’m not so sure of, unless I have a default one.  I do like the ring I just think it is too slow with getting motion and no one wants to push the button to ring it for some reason.  I do not like people knocking on my door, it is a harsh sound and it upsets me very much, and when they knock I get NO motion activation on the Ring Video Doorbell, I am not sure why but it is frustrating.  It I helpful when it works properly but it detours people from ringing it and they either leave or knock on the door.  I know this because I have a security camera out there so I still see them, but just wish the ring would work better with it.

They also have a cloud service where you pay $30 a year or $3 a month for the service.  This is for the recorded video of nothing that the ring video doorbell records.   That is what most of my videos have been, anyway.  I did not renew that after the year was up, because didn’t see the need in it when most of videos where of nothing.  I do wish that the app had the capabilities to keep or record the video and you store it locally without going through ring cloud service, but I guess that is how they are going to continue to get money.  It is a good buy but it does have its problems, that I wish they would fix.  I have had to remove mine so much the original way it is supposed to stay on does work anymore because it has been broken so now I have it up another way that lets me take it down a little easier.  I have also recently dropped it because it slipped out of my hands when going to put it back and it is a little deformed now, but still seems to work like usual, I think anyway.  If you purchase one, it would be best to have wired in one that you are replacing, so you don’t have to take it down to charge.  I may use mine a little longer then possibly hack it so I can use as a security camera instead of a doorbell, because it’s not the best.  Who knows with the updates they push to it, it might get better, one can only hope.
